This is probably the first item relating to graffiti that I had ever photgraphed. I had been on a 4-day motoring tour of Scotland at Easter 1952 with 3 Australians in a hired car, and we were on our way back from Ballater to Newcastle-on-Tyne when we had to drive very cautiously down this difficult piece of road which was called "Devil's Elbow.
The map above the concrete blocks and road is a map from that part of Scotland where the Devil's Elbow is, and the map is from page 279 in "Road Atlas of Great Britain" published byCassell and Collier Macmillan in 1977.
At the bottom left of the road map photo can be seen in very small writing the words "Devil's Elbow".
Many Scots have long desired to see the English leave their country, and the graffiti on one of the blocks reads:
